Known limitations

DraftTrail shows writing-process evidence. It is not an AI detector and should not be used as automatic proof of misconduct.

What DraftTrail can show

• Draft changes over time
• Autosaves and submissions
• Paste events and approximate pasted size
• Before/after snapshots around paste events
• Focus, blur, and idle activity inside the writing page

What DraftTrail cannot prove

• That a student used AI
• That a student did not use AI
• That manually typed text was not copied from elsewhere
• That another person did not help
• That work outside DraftTrail did or did not happen

Recommended teacher approach

1. Review the final paper.
2. Review the timeline and paste events.
3. Ask the student to explain their process.
4. Follow school policy.
5. Do not rely on paste counts alone.
